The American People Cannot Afford This New Year's Tax Hangover

January 1, 2013

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) released the following statement in response to the passage of H.R. 8, The American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2013:

"As Americans throughout the country were ringing in the New Year, their taxes went up, including those on the middle class, married couples, families with kids and Floridians who benefit from the sales tax deduction. The American people cannot afford, nor do they deserve, this massive New Year’s tax hangover. While this bill has its flaws, it immediately and permanently cuts taxes on 98 percent of the American people and 97 percent of small businesses."

While this bill did not address government spending, Congressman Diaz-Balart will continue to work on reigning in government spending, which is the key driver of our debt.
