Diaz-Balart Commemorates Cuba’s Independence Day
WASHINGTON, D.C. –– Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (FL-25) issued the following statement on the 117th anniversary of Cuban Independence Day.
“On May 20, 1902, the Cuban nation achieved its independence. Tragically, today the Cuban people are subject to a brutal dictatorship that has oppressed them for 60 years. In fact, the Cuban regime continues to spread its malevolence throughout our hemisphere, and now also directs the oppression of the Venezuelan people.
"I stand in solidarity with the Cuban people in their demands for the release of all political prisoners, democracy, freedom and human rights. Fortunately, today we have a president of the United States who also stands in solidarity with the Cuban people and who opposes the depravity and horror of the Cuban regime. The people of Cuba will be free, and I hope to celebrate the new day of their independence soon."
