Diaz-Balart: Today I supported important legislation to address the serious national security concerns raised by the Maduro regime.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart (FL-25) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives unanimously approved important legislation on Venezuela.
“As an original cosponsor of the Venezuela Arms Restriction Act (HR 920), I strongly support preventing the sale of weapons to Venezuela’s security services. These weapons could be used to further violently oppress the Venezuelan people, and to benefit drug trafficking, corruption, and other criminal activity of Maduro and his cronies," Diaz-Balart said.
"The Russia-Venezuela Threat Mitigation Act (HR 1477), of which I am also an original cosponsor, requires close investigation and continued monitoring of the role that Russia has played in propping up the Maduro regime. After Russia has sent nuclear-capable bomber plans and, as recently as this weekend, additional military support to Venezuela, we must keep a close eye on Russia’s threat to stability and democracy in our hemisphere. Regrettably, the Maduro regime has invited America’s adversaries such as Russia and China to our doorstep.”
Passage of this important legislation demonstrates strong, bipartisan support for the people of Venezuela and the importance of safeguarding American’s national security and the security of the region. “I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues and the administration to maintain pressure on the Maduro regime while strengthening solidarity with the Guaido administration and other leaders of the opposition.”
