WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart (FL-26) issued the following statement commemorating the victims of the "13 de Marzo" tugboat sinking by the Cuban regime on its 30th anniversary:
"Today marks 30 years since one of the cruelest atrocities ever committed against the Cuban people by the murderous regime in Cuba: the sinking of the '13 de Marzo' tugboat. The victims still have not seen justice for these heinous crimes.
There has been no accountability for the 37 innocent lives maliciously drowned, including 10 children and nine teenagers and the youngest victim, Helen Martínez Enriquez, the youngest victim at just six months old.
Sadly, the Cuban people continue to suffer at the hands of a depraved dictatorship that has no respect for human life or freedom. Just three years ago, the brave Cuban people risked their lives to demand human rights and democracy on July 11, 2021, with hundreds unjustly imprisoned. Courageous political prisoners such as Jose Daniel Ferrer, who reportedly is near death in a Cuban prison.
Yet, the Biden Administration continues to appease the Cuban regime by relaxing sanctions and allowing new access to U.S. financial markets, throwing a lifeline to the regime and putting our national security at risk.
The United States must continue to stand in solidarity with the Cuban people and deny resources to their oppressors until the Cuban people are free."

WASHINGTON, D.C. – El legislador Mario Díaz-Balart (FL-26) emitió la siguiente declaración conmemorando a las víctimas del hundimiento del remolcador "13 de Marzo" perpetrado por el régimen cubano en su 30 aniversario: “Hoy se cumplen 30 años de uno de los actos más crueles jamás cometidos contra el pueblo cubano por el despiadado régimen en Cuba: el hundimiento del remolcador '13 de Marzo'. Las víctimas aún no han visto justicia por estos crímenes horrendos. El regimen cubano aun no se responsabiliza por las 37 inocentes víctimas que fueron ahogadas, incluyendo 10 niños y nueve adolescentes, y la víctima más joven, Helen Martínez Enriquez, quien tenía apenas seis meses de edad. Tristemente, los cubanos siguen sufriendo a manos de una dictadura corrupta que no respeta la vida humana ni la libertad. Apenas tres años atrás, el valiente pueblo cubano arriesgó su vida para exigir derechos humanos y democracia el 11 de julio de 2021, con cientos de personas injustamente encarceladas. Prisioneros políticos valientes como José Daniel Ferrer, quien, según informes, está cerca de la muerte en una prisión cubana. Sin embargo, la Administración Biden continúa apaciguando al régimen cubano al relajar sanciones y permitirles acceso a los mercados financieros de EE.UU., eligiendo lanzar un salvavidas al régimen y poniendo en riesgo nuestros intereses de seguridad nacional.
