WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart (FL-26) issued the following statement in response to President Biden's Executive Order announcement: “President Biden’s latest Executive Order on immigration is a blatantly political move, of questionable constitutionality, in an election year. These Executive Orders are counterproductive and will do nothing to alleviate the ongoing chaos at our southern border. DHS personnel are overwhelmed, and Border Patrol agents can barely keep up with the influx of people, including dangerous individuals, crossing into our country. President Biden and his Administration have entirely neglected this crisis, ceding control to narco-terrorist and human trafficking cartels, which now dictate who enters our country and at what cost. Since becoming President, there have been over 7.8 million illegal encounters at our southern border and nearly 2 million known gotaways who evaded U.S. Border Patrol—more than the previous decade combined. We don’t know who these individuals are, nor their intentions. If the President were serious about enforcing the rule of law and addressing the ongoing border crisis he created, he would pressure the Senate to pass, or at least negotiate my bill, H.R.2, the Secure the Border Act. This is the strongest border security bill in history. It passed the House over a year ago and has been sitting in the Senate since. The President must secure our border and put an end to this crisis now.” ### |
