Diaz-Balart Celebrates Grand Opening of Villa Mariposa Affordable Housing Building

August 31, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (FL-25) issued the following statement on the grand opening of the Hialeah Housing Authority’s Villa Mariposa Affordable Housing Building.

“Today is a day of celebration for our community and Hialeah Housing Authority. Villa Mariposa will serve a particularly vulnerable community, our elderly. With these 83 units, we will provide a stable and decent home to individuals and families– something everyone should be entitled to. These homes are a testament to what is possible by leveraging federal resources. Over the years, I have been able to increase funding for Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to help build housing complexes such as these. Specifically, the HOME Program, which I know Villa Mariposa utilized to build these units. As always, I am grateful to be in a position where I can help our communities prosper, and I will continue to ensure that this is always the case. I thank Julio Ponce, Hialeah Housing Director, for his tireless advocacy, as well as our local and state leaders for their dedicated work in ensuring our community is taken care of."

As Ranking Member, and former Chairman, of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee (THUD), Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart included $1.35 billion for the HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) Program in both Fiscal Year 2020 and 2021.
