Díaz-Balart Commends President Trump for Fulfilling His Promise to American Farmers by Officially Withdrawing from the Tomato Suspension Agreement

July 15, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart (FL-26), Dean of the Florida Delegation, issued the following statement in response to the Trump Administration’s fulfillment of its 90-day commitment to officially withdraw from the 2019 Tomato Suspension Agreement:

“I applaud the Trump Administration for keeping its promise to prioritize farmers by following through on its decision to officially withdraw from this unfair and one-sided agreement.

“For too long, Florida farmers have been harmed by one-sided foreign trade deals like the Tomato Suspension Agreement, which flooded U.S. markets with Mexican tomatoes and put American tomato growers at a significant disadvantage.

“After multiple engagements with the U.S. Department of Commerce, I am pleased with the Administration’s decision to withdraw from the 2019 Agreement suspending the Antidumping Investigation on Fresh Tomatoes from Mexico. This is a major victory for Florida farmers and another example of President Trump’s America Firsttrade policies in action. I thank him and his Administration for standing with our farmers and promoting fair trade policies. This long-overdue action will hold Mexican tomato exporters accountable for circumventing enforcement mechanisms.”
