Miami International Airport (MIA) is the leading economic engine for Miami-Dade County and the State of Florida. It is America's busiest airport for international freight and the second busiest for international passengers, offering more flights to Latin America and the Caribbean than any other U.S. airport. That is why during the meeting with MIA officials, Congressman Díaz-Balart stressed the importance of airport security. He mentioned how the Homeland Security funding bill for fiscal year 2025 includes strong prohibitions that he requested to ensure that no taxpayer money is used to allow individuals working for a country designated as a State Sponsor of Terrorism to have access to sensitive U.S. government facilities like MIA. With Miami being one of the host cities for the FIFA World Cup 2026, the Congressman also highlighted that he and his colleagues sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security asking what preparations were underway to increase security planning and other logistical support for the World Cup, especially since the President's fiscal year 2025 budget request did not include adequate funding for increased security. Brightline Miami Central Station Since the inception of Brightline in South Florida, Congressman Díaz-Balart has witnessed the monumental transformation it has brought to Floridians and the economy as the only privately owned and operated intercity railroad in the United States. Brightline's recent expansion to the Orlando area, connecting Miami to Orlando, has provided a path for Floridians and tourists to travel across the state through the rail system. It has already welcomed over five million passengers abroad since opening its doors in 2017. Hialeah Public Housing Authority The Hialeah Housing Authority (HHA) was created in 1967 to provide vulnerable citizens of Hialeah with affordable and quality housing. The HHA services over 5,000 Section 8 vouchers, 1, 117 Public Housing units, and 545 Affordable Housing units. Recently, it was awarded the third highest in funding in the State of Florida, The funding awarded to Hialeah Housing Authority is provided through HUD's Capital Fund Program, which offers annual funding to all public housing authorities to build, renovate, and/or modernize the public housing in their communities. Its Executive Director Julio Ponce and City of Hialeah Mayor Esteban Bovo have been instrumental in its success. Díaz-Balart Continues to Deliver for South FloridaCongressman Díaz-Balart has a proven track record of reducing spending without shortchanging critical investments. During his years as former Chairman and Ranking Member of the THUD Subcommittee, he secured millions of dollars in federal funding to South Florida to support our veterans, the elderly, the disabled, and other vulnerable populations. He has also worked diligently to maintain and upgrade our country's roadways, seaports, transit systems, and airports and has been successful in bringing these investments into the South Florida community. Other successful solutions for the community include the PRICE Program. As Ranking Member, Congressman Díaz-Balart worked with then-THUD Chairman David Price to create the Preservation and Reinvestment Initiative for Community Enhancement "PRICE" program. Manufactured housing is a critical piece of the country's affordable housing stock that provides a home to over 22 million Americans. Manufactured housing and manufactured housing communities face significant challenges to affordability, resilience, infrastructure, and maintenance. The PRICE program is intended to replace the manufactured housing that can no longer withstand extreme weather, natural hazards, and disaster events with critical and necessary affordable workforce housing that will provide community enhancement for many generations to come. |
