Diaz-Balart Joins President Trump at White House for Announcement on New Cuba Sanctions
WASHINGTON, D.C. –– Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (FL-25) issued the following statement after joining President Trump and the heroes of Brigade 2506 at the White House today for the announcement of new sanctions on the Cuban dictatorship, including prohibitions on stays in regime-controlled hotels.
The overwhelming majority of Cuba's tourism industry is run by the Cuban military and intelligence services, which oppress the Cuban people and assist the Maduro regime in Venezuela. Additionally, imports of alcohol and tobacco products will also be prohibited.
"President Trump has taken an unprecedented stand in solidarity with the Cuban people. In addition to today's sanctions, he has ended transactions with the Cuban military, imposed robust sanctions on the regime's chief benefactor in Venezuela, ended cruises and most flights, and allowed victims of trafficking in stolen property to pursue their claims in court. Four years ago, President Trump promised solidarity with the Cuban people and robust sanctions against the Cuban regime. He has kept that promise – and more. I look forward to continuing this important work with President Trump and my colleagues until the democratic aspirations of the Cuban people are finally realized."
