Diaz-Balart Meets with OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro

March 7, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C.– Today, Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (FL-26), Chairman of the State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs (SFOPS) Appropriations Subcommittee in Congress, met with the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, to discuss some of our hemisphere's most pressing issues.

"It was a pleasure to host Secretary General Luis Almagro for a meeting with members of the subcommittee to discuss the most pressing issues facing our hemisphere. In fact, the region has crucial issues that are vital to U.S. national security interests, such as countering the malign influence of Communist China, Russia, and Iran in the region, combatting narcotrafficking, transnational crime cartels, corruption, and terrorism, while promoting democracy and human rights in Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua. The Secretary General has been a stalwart leader for human rights and democracy in our hemisphere. It was a pleasure discussing with him how, with greater concerted effort, we can work together toward a more stable, secure, and free hemisphere."
