Diaz-Balart: President Biden Failed to Include $725M for Everglades Restoration in his Budget Proposal

May 28, 2021
WASHINGTON, D.C.–– Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-25) issued the following statement expressing his disappointment after President Biden failed to include $725 million for Everglades restoration in his FY22 budget proposal to Congress.

"Earlier this year, my colleagues and I sent a bipartisan, bicameral letter to President Biden, urging him to include $725 million for Everglades restoration in his FY22 budget proposal to Congress. I am exceedingly disappointed that President Biden completely neglected our request, along with the request of Everglades stakeholders, and chose to forego this amount.

"Restoring, conserving, and protecting the Florida Everglades is a bipartisan issue that my colleagues in the Everglades Caucus and I have staunchly and continuously advocated for. Furthermore, the Everglades is utterly vital to Florida's economy and ecosystem, and the timely completion of crucial Everglades restoration projects depends on this funding. It is disheartening that the Biden Administration did not comprehend this and failed to recognize the importance of Everglades restoration to broader infrastructure and environmental progress in our state. Moving forward, I will work tirelessly to ensure the Everglades receives every federal dollar possible and will continue to urge this Administration and my colleagues to prioritize our natural treasure."
