Díaz-Balart Statement on FY24 Appropriations Legislation
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart (FL-26), a senior member of the House Committee on Appropriations, issued the following statement after House passage of legislation that includes the first six appropriations bills for Fiscal Year 2024: the Agriculture, Rural Development and the Food and Drug Administration; Energy and Water; Military Construction and Veteran Affairs; Transportation, Housing and Urban Development; Interior and Environment; and Commerce, Justice and Science for Fiscal Year 2024.
“I am pleased to support legislation that fully funds key priorities including support for our farmers, veterans, roads, and critical military projects. This legislation marks a departure from partisan, wasteful spending habits that have plagued our appropriations process under Democratic leadership in the House, burdening future generations with trillions in debt. By passing these spending bills, we will save American taxpayers more than $200 billion over the next decade while still remaining under the President's Budget Request by more than $100 billion.
"House Republicans made a commitment to the American people that, should they give us a majority, we would significantly reduce non-defense discretionary spending, while prioritizing national security and fiscal responsibility. Under Speaker Mike Johnson's leadership, despite facing a historically slim majority and a Democratic President and Senate, we remain steadfast in delivering on these promises for the American people. These include supporting our veterans, combating against fentanyl, support for local law enforcement and providing essential funding to America's farmers and rural communities."
Congressman Díaz-Balart, a senior member of the House Committee on Appropriations, successfully included the following local projectsand legislative priorities in the appropriations bills for Fiscal Year 2024.
