Diaz-Balart Statement on H.R. 4

August 24, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (FL-25) issued the following statement on H.R. 4.

“After a failed attempt to federalize our election system with H.R. 1, Pelosi and her squad are now using H.R. 4 under the false pretense of ending “sweeping voter suppression” to justify this unconstitutional government overreach. Among its radical provisions, H.R. 4 would require that states seek permission from the federal government before making any changes to their election rules– giving unelected bureaucrats in the federal government complete, unchecked control over decisions that should be made by state and local governments. As I have stated before, a thriving democracy depends on much more than just elections– it requires trust, transparency, and fairness in our election process. Instead of trying to pass a bill that would expand opportunities for corruption and fraud while further diminishing trust in the integrity of the election process, we should focus on working to rebuild and strengthen the American people’s confidence and trust in our democratic process.”
