Diaz-Balart: Trump Administration Continues Taking Strong, Unprecedented Measures Against Castro and Maduro Dictatorships

October 25, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. –– Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (FL-25) released the following statement following President Trump and the U.S. Department of Transportation's announcement to suspend flights to all Cuban cities, with the exception of Havana.

"It's reassuring to see an Administration continue to take strong, unprecedented measures against the Castro and Maduro dictatorships. The regime in Cuba controls most of the country's tourism industry-- profiting from flights through landing fees and increased travel. It then uses those resources to further repress the Cuban people and emboldens the Maduro regime in oppressing the Venezuelan people

"I strongly support and commend President Trump's dedication to reversing the misguided appeasement policy of the previous administration. Ending these flights and cutting off another revenue source to the regime is another important step in standing with the Cuban people by preventing U.S. dollars from enriching their oppressors."
