March 7, 2024
WASHINGTON, D.C.–Congressional Hispanic Conference Co-Chairs, Representatives Mario Díaz-Balart (FL-26) and Tony Gonzales (TX-23), issued the following statement congratulating Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz (TX-15) for being chosen to deliver the Republican response to the Nation in Spanish following the State of the Union Address.
The Co-Chairs said: “Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz, the first Hispanic Republican to represent the 15th Congressional district of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives, embodies the American Dream. Raised by her single mother Brownsville, she is the granddaughter of a Mexican farmworker with deep ties to the Rio Grande Valley. With over 20 years of experience leading several small businesses, she established herself as a true leader in her community. We are immensely proud to have a member of the Congressional Hispanic Conference deliver the Republican Spanish response to the State of the Union Address. Congresswoman De La Cruz's journey exemplifies perseverance and determination, and we eagerly anticipate her continued success as she represents the constituents of Texas's 15th Congressional District."
