English/Español: Congressional Hispanic Conference Co-Chairs' Champion the Inclusion of the Report Language on the Museum of the American Latino
WASHINGTON, D.C.– The Congressional Hispanic Conference (CHC) Co-Chairs Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart (FL-26) and Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) released the following statement following the House passage of legislation that includes the first six appropriations bills for Fiscal year 2024, which included funding for the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies division.
The Co-Chairs said: "Following the Congressional Hispanic Conference meeting with Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie G. Bunch III expressing our deep concerns regarding the insulting portrayal of Hispanic Americans within the Museum of the American Latino, the Smithsonian has committed to rectifying its actions by indicating procedural changes in the review of content and leadership. We thank Congressman Mike Simpson, Chairman of the House Interior and Environment Appropriations Subcommittee, for working with our members to include funding and for maintaining our language, which can be found on page 97 of the FY24 Interior House Report. Congress's concerns have been made clear, and we caution the Smithsonian Institution to be thorough on any and all future exhibits. We and the Committee will continue to monitor to ensure the letter and the spirit of the law are followed."

Los Copresidentes de la Conferencia Hispana del Congreso Celebran la Inclusión de Nuestros Requisitos en el Informe del Proyecto de Ley del Museo Nacional del Latinoamericano
WASHINGTON, D.C.– Los copresidentes de la Conferencia Hispana del Congreso (CHC), los congresistas Mario Díaz-Balart (FL-26) y Tony Gonzales (TX-23) emitieron la siguiente declaración tras la aprobación en la Cámara de Representantes de la legislación que incluye los primeros seis proyectos de ley de asignaciones para el año fiscal 2024, que incluyeron fondos para el Interior, Medio Ambiente, y Agencias Relacionadas.
Los copresidentes dijeron: "Tras la reunión de la Conferencia Hispana del Congreso con el Secretario del Smithsonian Lonnie G. Bunch III, expresando nuestras profundas preocupaciones sobre la representación insultante de los hispanoamericanos en el Museo Nacional del Latinoamericano, el Smithsonian se ha comprometido a rectificar sus acciones indicando cambios procedimentales en la revisión de contenido y liderazgo.
