EVERGLADES CITY, FL – Representative Mario Díaz-Balart is pleased to invite members of the media to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Wastewater Treatment facility in Everglades City. The ceremony will take place on Tuesday, June 18, at 10:00 a.m. Hurricanes Irma and Ian caused immense damage to our state, particularly in Everglades City, Chokoloskee and surrounding areas. These hurricanes exacerbated the condition of the decades-old plant, risking wastewater to spill into federal and state protected areas, such as Big Cypress National Preserve, Everglades National Park, the Ten Thousand Islands National Wildlife Refuge, Collier Seminole State Park, and Fakahatchee Strand State Park. As such, the facility needed a complete replacement. As senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, Representative Díaz-Balart’s secured over $6.5 million for the rehabilitation of the Everglades City Wastewater Treatment Plant and the rehabilitation of several lift stations in Everglades City, Chokoloskee, Carnestown, and Copeland. |
