Diaz-Balart Applauds $861,716 for Collier County's Homeless Assistance Programs

October 19, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C.– Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (FL-25) issued the following statement on the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)'s decision to grant Collier County $861,716 in Emergency Solutions Grants–Disaster Recovery. This authority was given to HUD through the 2020 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) Appropriations Bill.

"I am thrilled that HUD is allocating $861,716 in HUD Emergency Solutions Grants–Disaster Recovery (ESG-DR) to support homeless providers in Collier County as our community continues to recover from Hurricane Ian.

"In 2020, I fought for and supported granting HUD the additional authority to make available Homeless Assistance Grants for ESG-DR, to ensure states and localities have the resources they need following a natural disaster. This marks the first time that HUD is using this additional authority to offer such funds. This grant will significantly benefit individuals and families in Collier County whose needs may not be fully met by FEMA or other Federal disaster relief programs.

"I look forward to the positive impact this grant will have on our community, and I will ensure FL-25 continues to have and obtain adequate resources for hurricane mitigation and recovery."
