Rep. Díaz-Balart: Schumer’s Shutdown Shows Democrats are in Disarray
WASHINGTON D.C. – Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (FL-25), Vice Chair of the House Appropriations Committee, Chairman of the Subcommittee on National Security, the Department of State, and Related Programs (NSRP), and member of the Defense Subcommittee, issued the following statement regarding the government shutdown:
“Make no mistake: this is a Schumer-led shutdown.
The Democrats are in total disarray, obsessed with President Trump instead of governing. Shutdowns are devastating for our troops, veterans, and national security.
Appropriations bills require a bipartisan 60-vote process in the Senate. This Continuing Resolution, already passed by the House, is the same clean bill Senate Democrats—including Schumer—voted for in March. It keeps the government funded, protects our military and defense needs, supports our veterans, and sustains essential services for the American people—from roads and water projects to research, job training, and infrastructure.
Chairman Tom Cole has done an outstanding job: all 12 Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations bills were completed on time. Now the onus is on Schumer and Senate Democrats to pass this Clean CR, which is free of poison pills, free of partisan riders, and identical to the bill they already supported just six months ago.”
